Where This Job Goes

Part of Research Assistant (ASSIST) Training: The Edge of Your Own Authority.

About 1 minutes. Free, in your language, no account needed.

This is a starting rung, and a real one

Study coordinators, research nurses, monitors and project managers very often started exactly here. The knowledge that makes those roles work — how a visit actually runs, where records come from, what goes wrong — is learned at this level and is hard to acquire later.

Nobody who skipped this ever quite makes it up.

What to build deliberately

Habits. Writing at the time, checking before acting, asking when unsure. These become automatic in the first year or they do not become automatic at all.

A record of what you have done. Keep your own list of the studies you have worked on, the training you have completed and the tasks you were delegated. You will need it for every application and no employer will reconstruct it for you.

Understanding, not just compliance. Ask why a rule exists. People who understand the reason apply the rule correctly in the situation nobody anticipated.

What good looks like after a year

You notice things. You know which questions are yours and route the rest without hesitating. Your records need no corrections. People trust what you write.

That is not a junior standard. It is the standard, and it is available to you now.

The thing to take away

The whole of this role can be reduced to one sentence: do exactly what you were asked, write down exactly what happened, and say something the moment you are not sure.

Everything else is detail.
